An elegant Art Nouveau townhouse once divided into three student dwellings and stripped of its original character, has been meticulously reimagined as a sophisticated private residence for our client, a well-travelled Scottish bachelor.

As architects and designers, we dream of creating a unique space of our own. When our architect client saw the chance to build his own home within an eco-living, regeneration project in Rotterdam’s popular Kralingen area, he jumped at it.

Light, flow and functionality were the desired objective when Holly Marder, partner at Avenue Design Studio, and her husband gutted the ground floor of their 1929 row house. A complete reconfiguration of the spaces followed, resulting in a spacious, luxurious and accommodating environment to enjoy as a family of four.

Soft intervention was all that was needed in this architecturally unique, light and open plan space. We worked to strike a delicate balance between warm Japanese-style minimalism and comfortable family living.
