Starwood residence

2020 | Bloemendaal, The Netherlands

Nestled between forest, dune and sea our cottage style Starwood Residence is the manifestation of our design-minded client’s vision for a home that sustains a lifestyle rooted in family and flow.

A home that beckons gathering in all forms, connecting effortlessly to a life as much indoors as out, where gardens lush with homegrown produce are at the heart and soul of our clients passion for cooking and entertaining.

It was this narrative that inspired us to design a home that is laid back but luxurious in comfort; neither showy nor contrived but might be mistaken for having been there just as it is for all of time.

To achieve this, the house was stripped to its bones and lovingly brought back to life, with reclaimed French terracotta hexagon tile the stage upon which clay finished walls, rouge marble and custom joinery interplay with a quietly eclectic harmony of furniture, art and accessories.

Recycling, repurposing and repositioning of existing pieces of furniture was prioritised in an effort to create sustainable as well as personally curated spaces. In this context, the existing curved vanity was refinished to create an interesting eye-catcher in the bathroom. An heirloom chair and stool were reupholstered, adding meaning to a quiet corner in the master bedroom. That melding of the old and the new, the imagined and the re-imagined is precisely what gives this home its integrity.
