Meet Jelena

Hello! I’m so happy to introduce myself to you. 

I'm Jelena. I started at Avenue Design Studio at the beginning of January as an interior designer. 

My background is in business and marketing - I have worked for corporates, start-ups, publishing and design firms. I have pretty much followed my curiosity through this thing called life. However, I always felt this creative flame inside of me. I am a very visual person and I love coming up with ideas and new ways of doing things. I've also always been influenced by the space around me, which led me to go back to school and complete a Postgraduate degree in Interior Design. I was now that student in the front row raising her hand and devouring all of the study materials. It is during this period that I got to know Holly through a course that I was following simultaneously.

Fast forward to 2019 where I jumped headfirst into the world of design and started my own design studio. Working for yourself is highly liberating, but it can also get solitary at times. I enjoy collaborating with other people, boosting each others ideas and cracking mediocre jokes during coffee breaks.

With a long-standing admiration of the Avenue aesthetic, I reached out to Holly and Hedda. Their design sense and the level of detail they apply to their work is something that really spoke to me. Oh, and they seemed pretty cool people (and I prefer working with nice people). We met several times last year to chat about design, their brand and their business. And guess what? My intuition was confirmed: they are super talented and nice people!

So when the opportunity arose to work together with them, I grabbed it with both hands. And here we are! My role within the studio will be to assist with the residential project work, as well as helping out on the business development side. 

Some random facts about me: I like unexpected design details, paper magazines, the Rolling Stones, chouquettes, ceramics and food that combines the sweet and the savory.
